Back The Badge Ride

The BK’s participated in a great cause to raise money for the 100 Club which benefits law enforcement.  We began the escorted ride from American Dream Cycles, located in the Woodlands area.  All told, approximately 275+ bikes participated in the event.  The first leg of the trip ended at Hooter’s in the NASA area.

A brief stop then it was on to the Hooter’s on FM 1960 at IH-45.  Wow, two Hooters’ in one day!  The weather was warm but the amount of police officers and solo units made quick work of the escort duty.  I am happy to report there were no mishaps.  BK chapters from Houston, Brazoria County, and Galveston County were present in force.

The Hooter’s on FM 1960 was the real meal deal.  BBQ, pretty women, bikes, and restored antique cars.  Who can argue with that?  The event was well rounded and complete with a live band and a kiddie jumping area.  A tip of the hat to American Dream Cycles, who sponsored the event.  Many thanks to Neal Leonard, and all our BK members from the various southeast Texas chapters, who participated.  You helped make this one safe ride.

Ride to Chappell Hill

What a great day to share the road with fellow BK’ers.  A total of twelve bikes joined at the start and we headed out US 290 to lunch at The Filling Station restaurant in Navasota.  No parts came off any of the bikes!  My blood pressure lowered ten points when I saw the City of Houston city limit sign in my rear view mirror.  As we wound our way through the back roads we counted many motorcyclists enjoying the day.  Butch almost had us going down some foot paths.  Almost into Navasota, we looked to be in an area where moon-shiners used to produce their products.

After we finished our lunch, we struck out for Chappell Hill going near Washington on the Brazos, where Texas first located its capitol.  The bluebonnets were out, but not as plentiful as in past years.  We saw many motorists stopped on the side of the road where fields of wildflowers were seen.  Those enjoying the day were Ray Blackmon and Sandy, Harry Stafford, Ernest Byrd, Jim Bailey, Butch Blackmon, Fred Walschburger, Mike Powell, Henry & Sharon Ballard, and their guest Mr. Ballard.  Mr. Ballard is 76 years young and was riding an Electra Glide – my hero.

I took pictures, and accidentally deleted the whole enchilada.  Ugh!  Well, you have seen pics of us before.  Sorry gang.

“Love Fest” Ride to Lovelady Texas

I had not been to Lovelady since I had a rear flat on my 1980 Police Kawasaki 1000, but I felt it was safe to go considering my fellow Blue Knight’s would catch my back door.  The weather cooperated fully and so we made our way through the back woods to the event.  Butch did a great job on picking the route.  I think we were so far back in east Texas, some folks considered shoes optional.

When we arrived, we parked on the shoulder of Hwy. 19, since everyone else was parking there.  Seems many motorcyclists had the same idea to make their way to the Love Fest.  There were booths for food, fun, and items for sale, (to please the ladies).  There were funnel cakes, BBQ, snacks, face painting, leather goods, kiddy rides, and yes, an over aged and fat Elvis, (like yours’ truly).  Thank you very much.  See the pics on this website!

On the way back, we decided we must stop at the holy grail of BBQ at the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Huntsville.  This place is also known as “the church of the holy smoke”.  Yes it was good.  Those in attendance were Mr. /Ms. Ernest Byrd, Mr. /Ms. Dave Harrison, Ray Blackmon and Sandy, and single riders Pat Thompson, Butch Blackmon, and myself.

Ride To LaGrange

Was a cold start for a great ride to LaGrange which was our annual chapter inaugural ride for 2008. Seven bikes made the trip which began in the fog and cold. Had the weatherman been wrong? We thought it would be sunny and warm?

Everyone warmed up with a cup of coffee at the Shell station start point at US 290 and FM 1960. President Randy Marshall greeted all riders although he was not able to continue due to his work schedule. We thought it was a bad omen when Fred Walschburger lost a Harley emblem off his front fender; however a romp through the back roads is what kept us going through the fog. Reaching Bellville, we stopped for another grateful cup of coffee and pastry. Many of us were ready for a stop. As we left Bellville, we saw the sun! Yes, it was there all the time, as we continued on to LaGrange.

At the Roadhouse restaurant we enjoyed good stories, fun, and food. Neal and Stefanie Leonard met the group in LaGrange. After topping the tanks it was head back to Houston with mother-nature cooperating. Thanks for all who attended including Pat and Judy Thompson, Neal and Stefanie Leonard, Randy Marshall, Fred Walschburger, Mike Powell and guest rider Dave Parker, Gene Adolph and Diane, Butch Blackmon, Frank Hamm, and Harry Stafford.
